A drawback to the gold version is that you only have one choice for mic placement, but you can always upgrade to platinum later if you want it. Another benefit is it comes with a TON of different reverb patches. The percussion samples are nice too - chimes, keyboards, lots of snares and cymbals with various articulations. To me, the only thing it lacks are good pop/jazz articulations for the brass, but it is a symphonic instrument so I guess you can't have everything. Some of my favorites are the Penderecki-style microtonal clusters (think Shutter Island score), pizzicati, and a lot of the brass instruments have some very cool stylistic effects (rips, trills, flutters, etc). There are tons of different articulations too. The string samples are some of the best I've heard, and at that price (also, EWQL has sales all the time) nothing else comes close. I can't vouch for Komplete because I don't own it, but EWQL Symphony Orchestra is something I use on almost every project in some capacity.

If you want to sound vaguely orchestral sometimes but still have access to a range of other excellent tools, then you might want Komplete.Īlso, most of the best things in Komplete are high quality software synthesizers and I don't get the impression you'd know how to make the most of those. If you want the sound of an orchestra, EWSO is probably what you want. One is for sounding like a whole orchestra and the other is a package of many solutions to do lots of things with. That aside, Komplete and EWSO are very different pieces of software. (Conversely, if you design your own sounds with Massive, you will sound as good as you are at sound design.) If you use a lot of Massive presets, you will sound derivative and amateur. Most of the good presets in Massive have a nasty habit of getting used by lots of people.
Massive is an excellent synth but as a "soundbank for synths," I would seriously recommend you stay away from it. Some bits of your language, "soundbank for the synths" and "VST for synths" indicate to me that you are preset surfing and not into sound design. I have a feeling their next sale will be during the holidays or something. I also looked into their brass and strings section and the sounds just blew my mind away. These are really the only things that stand out in Komplete 9 for me.Īnd today is the last day of that EWSO Gold sale and a part of me just really wants to jump on the gun right now. People also say Kontakt 5 is worth looking into. I hear Massive is also a good VST for synths. The presets already sounded like it's been mixed and mastered.Īs for Komplete 9, their piano collection sounds really good. Looked around yesterday and just found out about East-West VSTs for Fruity Loops and listened to some of the samples and it just threw me off. I've looked into Miroslav, Nexus 2, Kontakt 5 and it's nicely priced, but the sounds just doesn't cut it for me. I already have Sylenth1 and it's got an okay soundbank for the synths, but I feel like I'm still lacking in the orchestral library.

I'm big on rap/trap, rnb, dubstep, and film scores. I just started making beats about a month ago.
